10 tips to make your home a relaxation station

Here are the tricks you need to unwind at home

There is nothing better than coming home and putting your feet up after a long day.  Our homes should be a sanctuary, offering a warm and inviting space to unwind. Creating a comforting environment is pivotal to making your home a relaxation station, and although everyone uses different tactics to relax, below are some fail-safe tips to make your home a more soothing place to chill.

Decorate with candles

The addition of candles instantly makes a space more relaxing. They give the room a warm glow which creates a sense of comfort and ease. Opting for scented candles can create a serene ambience – lavender or fresh linen are particularly relaxing scents that can aid the comforting nature of any room. We would recommend adding candles to your bathroom and living room and lighting them daily for the ultimate relaxing atmosphere.

Personalise with photos

We all have happy memories that we hold close to our hearts, so why not keep them alive by adding photos to your home? Frame beach trips, or a particularly good holiday with friends and family. Adding photos of loved ones to your home creates a relaxing and calming atmosphere, as you are constantly reminded of fond memories.

Have blankets handy

Curling up on the sofa with a soft blanket is a great way to relax after a long day. It is so important to keep your home filled with comforting soft furnishings to encourage relaxation. Keep blankets in your living room and bedroom – the fluffier the better!

Add greenery

Adorning your home with plants brightens up your space and helps to keep the air clean and fresh. Bringing the outside into your home also stops the room from feeling stuffy. Try adding your favourite plants to your kitchen windowsill or, alternatively, create a green space on a shelf or side table.

Organise, organise, organise

There is nothing less relaxing than a chaotic and messy home. Try investing in some handy decorative baskets and boxes to help keep your space organised and stress-free. This will also free up some space and make your home feel much bigger and brighter.

Use neutral colours

Whilst adding bright colours can be fun, neutral and muted tones such as beige and white are easier on the eye. By keeping your home’s colour palate neutral, it creates a calming and spa-like environment. Add a pop of colour through bright throw pillows or rugs but keep your walls neutral.

Invest in a good speaker

Music brings joy to the soul and filling your home with relaxing and ambient sound is one of the best ways to create a calming atmosphere. Invest in a good sound system to listen to your favourite tunes and make your space even more relaxing.

Let in natural sunlight

The power of natural sunlight cannot be understated. It improves mood, boosts our productivity and creates a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere that artificial light does not.

Don’t have large windows? Try incorporating reflective surfaces such as mirrors or glass furniture into your space. This easy trick will dramatically increase the presence of natural sunlight in your home.

Decorate with books

We all love a good book and a great way to create a relaxing atmosphere is to add a bookshelf to your space. This will not only encourage you to read but is a great decorative tool. Add a reading corner with a comfortable armchair to instantly revitalise any room.
