Film Character Trail

Where? South Park, Darlington

Located in the picturesque South Park in Darlington, this terrific trail is the perfect way to make the most out of the summer by getting your kids outside and having fun. The trail lets you and your little ones follow along and find a range of beloved film characters who are sure to get them excited. And the fun doesn’t stop there. There will also be a music and movement session following the trail, which is sure to tucker out your tots by bedtime.

All the Fun of the Fair

Where? Head of Steam, North Road Station, Darlington

The Head of Steam, located right in the centre of Darlington, is one of the market town’s staple venues, hosting many of the most exciting family-friendly events this summer. Leading the pack on the 21st July is All the Fun of the Fair, which is the venue’s much-loved family fun days out.

Expect entertainment classics including Punch and Judy, street theatre, face painting and even a mini train ride. They’ll be so much going on, so be sure not to miss out.

Romans at the Railway Museum

When? 23rd July 2019

Where? Head of Steam, North Road Station, Darlington

Fairground fun isn’t the only thing taking place at the Head of Steam this summer. There’s also a wonderful chance to get your kids excited about history with a true Roman invasion. Find out what life was like in the Roman army as veteran soldier Rufus goes on the hunt for new recruits. Your little ones will have the chance to wear the armour, lift the shield and march the march. Rufus will even put them through basic training and there will be craft activities, dressing up and historical objects to admire and handle.

Crazy Creatures at Head of Steam

When? 25th July 2019

Where? Head of Steam, North Road Station, Darlington

Make sure you head over to the Head of Steam this summer as the list of fun activities taking place just keeps on growing! If fairground fun and Romans aren’t enough for you, you can also introduce your little ones to a range of exotic creatures and fearsome mini-beasts. Come along and meet John and his crazy creatures, great and small, and teach your kids a little bit more about the natural world in the process.

Darlington by the Sea

When? 25th July 2019

Where? Market Square, Horse Market, Darlington

Darlington by the Sea is a stalwart of the market town’s summer itinerary, offering every child the chance to experience all the fun of the seaside without having to travel. Instead, the event brings the seaside to you! Literally tons of sand are transported to the market square for your children to play in, and there will also be a street theatre and plenty of amazing entertainment throughout the day. There’s no better way to enjoy the town in the sunshine.

BIG Little Gigs: Ska Special

When? 27th July 2019

Where? The Forum Music Centre, Borough Road, Darlington

Is your child a music lover? Then for something a little bit different, head over to the Forum Music Centre later this month for BIG Little Gigs’ Ska Special, featuring live music from The Skapones. This local ska band will be performing a set of foot-stomping anthems and original material, following their success last year achieving two number ones on the iTunes Reggae Chart. This event is sure you get both you and your kids up and moving.

School’s Out for Summer Disco

Farmyard Flyer

Yes, we’re not done with the Head of Steam quite yet – the Farmyard Flyer team are giving you even more reasons to pay the venue a visit this summer! Farmyard Flyer are all about bringing the fun of the farm to you, with large and small animals alike on their iconic double-decker bus. Your kids will have the chance to meet the animals and get up close and personal, hopefully learning a thing or two in the process.

LEGO Club for Home Educated Children

When? 1st August 2019

Where? Crown Street Library, Crown Street, Darlington

Many parents make the choice that home education is the best option for their children, but it’s natural to be worried that this might make them struggle to make friends. Luckily, the Crown Street Library offers home-educated children a chance to interact with each other over the universally-beloved activity of Lego building.
